Cracking the Code: Memoir or Fiction?
Join Susie Hara (author of the novel The House on Ashbury Street) and Lori Horvitz (author of the memoir Collect Call to My Mother: Essays on Love, Grief, and Getting a Good Night’s Sleep), to hear them interview each other about how they came to tell their personal stories through memoir or fiction. Both authors will read excerpts from their newly released books, each of which has a cameo role for Patty Hearst.

Saturday, October 22, 2022. Lit Crawl in-person event with Castro Writers’ Coop. I’ll be reading a piece along with other Coop writers in a collaborative, rollicking riff on Armistead Maupin’s classic, renamed Tail of the City. At Martuni’s, a Castro bar.

October 23, 2021. Castro Writers’ Coop once again collaborates on a relay race of storytelling, in-person and masked up. We deliver our spin on Hansel and Greta; ours is called Handsome and Greta, featuring Prince Harry and Greta Thunberg, unlikely partners in a zany-antics-ensue sendup. At Martuni’s, a Castro bar.

October 24, 2020 at 7 pm. Join us for Lit Crawl 2020, where I’ll be reading–virtually–with other Castro Writers’ Cooperative writers, on Zoom. We’re presenting a collaborative takeoff called Wizard of Ahhhs.  Click here for a video of the event.

October 19, 2019. Lit Crawl. Once again, I’m joining the Castro Writers’ Coop to put our heads together and come up with a collaborative script in advance of Lit Crawl, resulting in a relay race of a reading/performance. Lit Crawl is the closing event of the fabulous annual Litquake festival in San Francisco.

April 1 through 21, 2019. I’ve been awarded a residency fellowship at Brush Creek, in Wyoming. Looking forward to three luxurious weeks of uninterrupted time and space for working on my new book, Fish and Ice Cream!

October 11, 2015, Litquake Festival: Join me and other writers at LitQuake in the Castro at 1:00 pm, at The Magnet, 4122 18th St, San Francisco. I’m thrilled to be a part of LitQuake, a dynamic festival, going strong!

May 28, 2015: Green Apple Books Reading: Fabulous author Lori Horvitz comes to town to read from her new book of essays, The Girls of Usually (great title!), and I will be sharing the evening with her at the wonderful Green Apple Bookstore (the original Clement St. store) at 7:00 pm. April 21, 2015: Lambda Literary Award Finalists Reading: I’m happy to be reading, along with other Lambda Literary Award finalists, at the San Francisco Library Main Branch, Latino/Hispanic Meeting Room A and B – Lower Level. November 15, 2104, 4:00 pm: San Francisco Noir panel at the Howard Zinn Bookfair, along with fabulous authors Sin Sorocco, John Goins, and Francesca Rosa.

October 18, 2014, 8:30 pm: Lit Crawl! First time at Lit Crawl, and it was a blast. I read from my novel, in the company of several other compelling writers who read from their work, at Cafe La Boheme.

April 23, 2014: The book launch for Finder of Lost Objects at Green Arcade Books was great fun. Green Arcade Books is a wonderful bookstore at the corner of Market and Gough in San Francisco.
